Ford is recalling over 850,000 vehicles in the United States due to a potential issue with the low-pressure fuel pump, which may cause engines to stall and increase the risk of crashes. The recall affects various Ford and Lincoln models, including certain Ford Broncos, Explorers, F-150s, and Lincoln Aviators and Navigators from the 2021 to 2023 model years. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem can lead to reduced fuel flow to the engine, causing poor performance or engine stalls.
The recall was prompted by six consumer complaints about power loss due to pump failure.
Ford plans to notify affected owners starting Monday (July 14) about the potential risks and will provide a remedy free of charge once it is developed. The company estimates that 10% of the recalled vehicles may have this defect. No accidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue, but drivers should watch for warning signs like poor engine performance or a check engine light. The problem is more likely to occur in warm weather or with low fuel levels.
Ford is currently working on a solution and will send additional instructions to owners once it is available.
