Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for more than 550,000 vehicles due to airbag and structural concerns that could increase the risk of crashes and injuries. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects 556,043 vehicles from model years 2016, 2017, and 2025.
The first recall involves 63,898 of the 2025 Ford Maverick models. These vehicles may have an airbag indicator light that can become loose or dislodged, potentially leaving occupants unaware of whether the passenger airbag is on or off, thus increasing the risk of injury. Owners of the recalled Maverick models can visit a Ford dealer to have new airbag indicator light retaining clips installed at no cost.
The second recall affects 492,145 Ford Explorers from 2016-2017. The B-pillar door trim, which covers the frame between the front and backseat windows, may detach while driving. This can result in debris entering the roadway, posing a hazard to drivers. Ford is still developing a remedy for the Explorer models.
Owner notification letters for both recalls are expected to be mailed on June 9, 2025. Second letters will be sent once remedies are available. Owners can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 with recall numbers 25C17 and 25S53. For more information, vehicle owners can check the status of their vehicles through the NHTSA recall database.
