American Olympic gold medalist and Ohio State wrestling standout Kyle Snyder was arrested in connection with a prostitution sting, the New York Post reported on Monday (May 12) citing multiple reports.
Snyder, 29, who won gold at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, as well as silver at the 2020 Tokyo Games, was one of 16 men busted in relation to the investigation, which was launched by police in Columbus, Ohio. The department posted ads online for escort services in an effort to lure in suspects looking to engage in prostitution, according to Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert.
Snyder allegedly made contact with police at around 8:15 p.m. on Friday (May 9) after seeing the ads online and went to a nearby hotel where he believed he was meeting an escort. Police said Snyder paid the undercover officer cash and asked for oral sex before being arrested for engaging in prostitution and being released from the scene.
Snyder won three consecutive NCAA heavyweight championships from 2016 to 2018 during his collegiate career at Ohio State, was part of the Buckeyes' national championship team in 2015 and was inducted into the Ohio State athletics Hall of Fame in 2024. The Maryland native competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, but finished one spot shy of medaling.
Snyder is scheduled to appear in court on May 19.
