Morgan Geyser, one of the two girls involved in the 2014 'Slender Man' stabbing case, is set to be released from a Wisconsin mental health facility after nearly seven years. A judge ruled on Thursday (January 9) that Geyser, now 22, is ready to transition to a group home where her mental health will continue to be monitored.

Geyser was 12 years old when she and her friend, Anissa Weier, lured their classmate, Payton Leutner, to a park in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and stabbed her 19 times. The attack was intended to please the fictional character Slender Man. Leutner survived the attack, and both Geyser and Weier were charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide.

Judge Michael Bohren ordered Geyser's release after three psychologists testified that she had made significant progress in her mental health treatment. Dr. Kenneth Robbins, one of the psychologists, stated that Geyser no longer poses a danger to herself or others and that remaining in the facility could hinder her progress.

Geyser was diagnosed with schizophrenia after the attack but has been weaned off antipsychotic medications. She still experiences symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and autism. Dr. Deborah Collins, another psychologist, noted that Geyser understands the conditions of her release, which include living in a group home and wearing an ankle monitor.

Geyser's release is conditional upon the state Department of Health Services creating a supervision plan within 60 days.

Geyser's co-assailant, Weier, was released in 2021 under similar conditions.
