Gov. Beshear's Budget Proposal Ups Funding For Education, Child Protection

Kentucky Capitol

(Frankfort, KY) - Governor Andy Beshear's two-year budget proposal includes significantly increased funding for public education and child protection.

Beshear presented his budget plan to Kentucky lawmakers Tuesday evening, saying it puts an end to years of painful cuts.

Other budget priorities included expanding Medicaid and directed funding to break the cycle of poverty.

The budget is balanced by projected increases in cigarette, tobacco and some business taxes, and a new tax on vaping products as well as passage of a bill to legalize and tax sports betting in the state.
