(Louisville, KY) - The operators of Churchill Downs say they plan to expand their racing and gaming operations in Kentucky.

Churchill Downs Incorporated announced Thursday the company plans to build a new $200 million facility in Northern Kentucky called New Latonia Racing and Gaming.

First, Churchill Downs will file an application with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission requesting to host a 2020 winter racing meet at Churchill Downs in Louisville. The dates would then move to the new racetrack in future years. The winter racing dates have been held by Turfway Park, an existing racetrack in Florence.

The new venue will feature a racetrack, hotel, and a variety of other slot gaming options.

The location for the track and a construction date have not yet been released, but the venue seems to take its name from Latonia which is a neighborhood in Covington.
