KDE Commissioner Explanins Sickout Document Request

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Kentucky's top educator is asking questions about the teacher sickouts.

Education Commissioner Wayne Lewis is asking for information relating to teachers calling in sick during the final days of the legislative session.

Lewis says he's not looking for a list of teachers who were in Frankfort but wants the names of teachers from districts that were closed who called in sick.

The commissioner says he's hoping to get some clarity, adding that the sickout and a strike "look a lot alike to me."

In a statement, the Kentucky Education Association says teachers took action because of a lack of trust in Governor Bevin and the General Assembly.
