FRANKFORT, Ky. - Governor Andy Beshear offered new guidance to Kentucky's school districts ahead of the new school year, in light of the rising COVID-19 positivity rate in the state due to the Delta Variant.
While not implementing a mandate, Beshear said school districts should require non-vaccinated individuals and all children under the age of 12 to wear masks while indoors at schools.
The guidance was drafted in coordination with the Kentucky Department of Education and the CDC.
This comes as the Delta Variant spreads throughout Kentucky. The positivity rate in Kentucky has risen to nearly 8%, and hospitalizations have nearly tripled in recent weeks.
Beshear said that over 30,000 Kentuckians received a dose of the vaccine in the last week, an increase over recent weeks. In total, over 2.2 million people in Kentucky have had at least one shot.
