(Frankfort, KY) - A Kentucky House committee is advancing a bill that would make broad and fundamental changes to Louisville Metro Government.

The House Local Government Committee advanced HB 309 Wednesday.  It would give Metro Council more power and oversight over the mayor, including requiring council's approval for contracts and settlements of more than one-million dollars.

The proposal would also change Louisville's mayoral elections to nonpartisan, meaning candidates wouldn't have Republican or Democratic labels, and the top two vote-getters in the primary would face each other in the fall.
