LMPD Chief Fired Following Overnight Shooting

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer has fired the city's police chief after officers and Kentucky National Guardsmen shot and killed a man early Monday morning.

Fischer fired Chief Steve Conrad after learning the officers did not activate their body cameras during the incident.

Police say someone opened fire on the officers and guardsmen, who returned fire, killing 26-year-old David McAtee.  It happened as law enforcement was trying to break up a large crowd gathered at a gas station.

Police say two officers and two guardsmen fired their weapons.

McAtee was a black business owner in the city's west end.

Robert Schroeder was named acting police chief.
