LMPD Confirms Shots Fired Amid Breonna Taylor Protest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Seven people were shot as protesters gathered in downtown Louisville late Thursday night into early Friday morning to demand justice for Breonna Taylor, a black woman killed by police in her home.

Louisville Metro Police say one of the shooting victims was in critical condition early this morning.  LMPD says no officers fired their weapons.

Chanting "no justice, no peace," hundreds of protesters blocked streets for several hours. They were met by police officers in riot gear using tear gas.

In a video statement, Mayor Greg Fischer said he "feels the community's frustration, anger and fear." But he said "answering violence with violence is not the answer."

Breonna Taylor's family released a video, urging protesters to go home before someone gets hurt.

Taylor was shot and killed inside her home in March during a police drug raid.  No drugs were found in the home.
