Cops Called On Elizabeth Smart's Kidnapper On Her First Night Out Of Jail

Wanda Barzee

The woman who helped her husband kidnap Elizabeth Smart had an eventful first night of freedom after being released from jail. Wanda Barzee was staying a hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah when police were called after she went on a "religious tirade," according to TMZ. Barzee reportedly started shouting religious scriptures and praised Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism.

The person who called the complaint hung up and police were unable to call the person back, so they did not send a unit to investigate.

The police did respond to a separate call from the hotel due to the large media presence outside. Officers arrived at the hotel and ordered the media to stand back from the property.

Warzee was denied parole in June and was expected to remain in prison until 2024, but her lawyer argued that she should have been given credit for her time served in federal prison and the parole board was forced to reverse their decision a few months later.
