Pro Skater Says Gun Logo Got Him Kicked Off Flight

A pro skateboarder claims that he was booted off of a Frontier Airlines flight because of the logo on his hoodie. Justin Mallory said he was asked to leave the plane because of the “gun-themed artwork on his shirt." The hoodie featured the logo of his skateboarding brand Big Black Biscuit and features two crossed handguns above the word "GATLANTA." Mallory said he was on his way to Phoenix for Skater Con, where he was going to perform and sell merchandise.

Mallory contacted lawyer Mawuli Davis and is considering legal action against the carrier. Davis said that the airline discriminated against Mallory by removing him from the plane.

“The shirt, some would say he’s dressed in a hip-hop fashion, and he’s African-American. Those three things may have all contributed to the discrimination and profiling against him,” Davis said.

The airline disputes his claims that the shirt was the reason he was removed from the flight. The airline explained that the issue was their requirement that he had to check his skateboard and could not bring it on the plane.

Frontier said Mallory “became argumentative prior to boarding when asked to check a skateboard. The passenger boarded the aircraft and continued to exhibit disruptive behavior.”

Frontier's policy requires skateboards be stored under the plane with other luggage.

Mallory said he was unable to find another flight to Phoenix and missed his scheduled performance at Skater Con.
